Discover and learn to wrangle place-based data for health equity with design thinking, connecting community-level Social Determinants of Health for high impact research and advocacy
The SDOH & Place Design Fellowship is a remote, project-based program sponsored by the Healthy Regions & Policies Lab (HeRoP). We are seeking a detail-oriented Product/UX Designer to support the SDOH & Place initiative, a project dedicated to making complex Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) data accessible for public health planning and community advocacy.
Applications for the 2026 SDOH & Place Fellowship are now open! Here we will teach you how to create your own data dashboard/data visualization within a Human-Centered Design framework!
Join us from 11 AM- 12 PM on Friday, December 5th for a guided webinar on Finding Public Datasets for Health Equity Research using the Data Discovery App!
Looking for community-level SDOH for your project? Explore the Data Discovery search tool, with or without an AI assist, to identify high-quality data across the United States.
Review data availability across topics, spatial scales (i.e. census tract vs county), and time periods alongside usage tips.
Learn how to make your own dashboard (ex. story map, asset map, interactive map or classic dashboard) with open source and/or free GIS tools using the Community Toolkit.
Get practice with spatial data for health equity initiatives, and engage human-centered design to build with communities.
